Race Night great success

Our race night on Holy Thursday (28th March) in the Millmount House was a great success.

We would like to thank all those who helped on the night and thank everybody for their generosity with money, prizes and time.

Also like to say a big thank you to everybody that sponsored adverts in the programme.

This is a very important fundraising night for all our teams so well done to everyone. Check out our Pictures.

Death of Con Martin and Dessie Toal

It was with great sadness we learned of the death of ex-Drums players Dessie Toal on 19th February 2013 and Con Martin on 24th Feb 2013. Deepest sympathy is extended to both of their families from all at Drumcondra Football Club.

Death of Drums 'Legend' Leo Ward

It was with great sadness that all at Drumcondra FC heard of the death of Drums legend Leo Ward.

Leo died on 29th January (aged 94) at his home (peacefully).

His grand daughter Alison O'Riordan wrote a nice article about him here.

Rest In Peace Leo from all at Drumcondra Football Club. We also send condolences to all his family and freind.

A blast from our past

• Derek Donnelly, Drumcondra FC with Gernot Zimmermann

FC Nürnberg fan called Gernot Zimmermann approached Drumcondra FC and asked if we could meet him when he was over for the Ireland V Germany 2014 World Cup qualifier on Friday 12th October 2012.

Gernot wanted to present us with an official match day programme from the European Cup game that took place between FC Nürnberg and Drumcondra in 1961. Gernot's relative Zenger played for FC Nürnberg at that time.

We were only too happy to meet Gernot and talk to him about his interest in the Drums glorious past. We thank him for his lovely gift to our club.

As a former member of 'Drums' it was great to see a photograph of my old teammate, Leo Ward, looking so well. Please give him kind regards. He was one of the nicest people it was my privilege to know. Glad to see that the 'Drums' name is still flying high.

Sincere condolences
Drumcondra Football Club would like to express our sincere condolences on the tragic passing of Joe Dunne (Joe's Shearcutz, Local Barber, Drumcondra Road) on Wednesday 1st August. Joe was a good friend of the Drums and helped with sponsorship of a lot of our teams over many years. Deepest sympathies are sent to Joe's family and friends.

Leo Ward Presentation

Drumcondra FC had the great pleasure in presenting the 4 medals that were Stolen some time ago on Leo Ward (1939 and 1940 FAI Junior Cup Medal, with Drumcondra Juniors, 1943 and 1946 FAI Cup Medals for Drumcondra) on the 27th Jan 2012. As a fittng tribute on his 93rd Birthday Frank Connolly (Chairperson of Drumcondra FC, Derek Donnelly Secretary and Paula Martin Treasurer ) made the presentation to Leo. It was on honor for Drumcondra FC to be able to acknowledge Leo for his contribution to the team through the years. Leo Ward was an outstanding player for the Drums.

Dear Frank/Drumcondra FC

On behalf of Leo, Carol, Jean and Paul Ward, I wish to thank you and your colleagues in Drumcondra Football Club for replacing Leo's stolen medals and also for presenting same to him on the occasion of his 93rd Birthday last Friday.
Leo, his family & friends have stated on more than one occasion since then, that it was a very original & wonderful gesture on behalf of Leo's former and beloved Club and it is very much appreciated by all.
Please extend our thanks to Paula Martin and Derek Donnelly for not only attending on the night but also being so nice to Leo. In due course perhaps you would contact me when you wish to return the scrapbook & if you have any further information on it or its contents, I would be grateful.

Clash of the Titans Draw
